A U.S. National Guard F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jet crashed during training in Hiawatha National Forest, Michigan. The status of the pilot is unknown.
The fighter belonged to Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 115th Fighter Wing, stationed at Truax Field Air National Guard Base. It was participating in a night training mission when it crashed, at around 20:00 local time on December 8, 2020.
“At the time of the incident, the aircraft was on a routine training mission with one pilot on board,” the 115th Fighter Wing reported in a statement. “The cause of the crash, as well as the status of the pilot, are unknown at this time, and the incident is under investigation.”
Emergency responders were sent on the scene to retrieve the pilot, who might have ejected from the aircraft.
