Etihad Airways Engineering, the aircraft maintenance and engineering arm of Etihad Aviation Group, launched a new in-house production facility. The Abu Dhabi-based MRO company announced that it has tasked itself to distribute face masks across the entire Etihad Aviation Group for all employees for the next three months.

According to a press release, the new facility would produce up to 20,000 face masks daily by its fully automated cutting-edge machines. The whole production would be distributed among the employees of Etihad Aviation Group including cabin and ground crews, catering, cargo, and engineering employees as well as medical professionals.

The newly launched facility is expected to produce and distribute a total of 1.3 million medically certified masks. Etihad Engineering stated that all of its production received medical certification by Laboratorio Analisi Tecnal and CNTAC, the Italian and Chinese certifying bodies, according to the statement released on November 10, 2020.

“Since the start of the pandemic, we witnessed consistent demand for face masks at the workplace. With the safety, health, and wellbeing of our customers and employees our paramount concern and top priority, we saw an opportunity to be self-sufficient,“ said Haytham Nasir, the Vice President Airframe Services of Etihad Engineering.

“To provide the highest level of protection, this new facility not only meets our internal demands but we can also mass produce for third-party customers, partners, and suppliers,” added Nasir.

Etihad Engineering claimed that the face masks would have three layers and provide 98% filtration while ensuring “the highest levels of protection and safety“.
