An American Airlines Airbus A320 performed a high-speed emergency landing at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) in the United States, shortly after departure due to flaps problem.
The incident occurred on the evening of October 2, 2020. The aircraft, registered as N651AW, was en route from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX) to Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) in the U.S. when the flight crew noticed a flaps problem and requested permission to enter a hold for troubleshooting.
The aircraft spent nearly 30 minutes on the hold at a flight level of 10,000 feet and the flight crew made a decision to return to PHX. While pilots were expecting to complete a normal landing, the flaps problem led to a higher than normal landing speed. This forced the flight crew to complete an emergency landing on runway 26 at PHX.
According to the initial report, the landing was completed safely with a slightly higher than normal speed at nearly 145 knots over the ground with 5 knots heading.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The aircraft rolled out without further incident.
