Air New Zealand’s CCO Cam Wallace has handed in his resignation after 19 years of service to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

On September 3, 2020, the New Zealand flag carrier’s chief commercial and customer officer has said to be withdrawing from the airline by the end of the month.

Wallace has spent 19 years in Air New Zealand working different chief and general manager roles, and he believes that the airline will successfully navigate the crisis. However, according to the airline’s CEO Greg Foran, the company at its current state does not meet Wallace’s ambitions anymore.

“Cam has advised me today that given the airline is now effectively a domestic carrier for the foreseeable future that he is resigning to pursue opportunities that meet his global career ambitions,” Foran said.

After he officially steps down on September 30, 2020, Wallace will remain a consultant for the company until the end of the year.

Under Wallace as a chief revenue officer, the airline became a near $4 billion business in 2018. However, in 2020, Air New Zealand has suffered its first financial loss since 2002 due to COVID-19, forcing the company to sever the size of its operations and active fleet size.
