Lithuania, the largest of the Baltic states, is considering the establishment of a new national carrier either at the end of this year or at the beginning of 2021.
According to the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications, the country aims to be independent of other airlines and restore the air links from the country in the post-coronavirus world with its own airline.
Jaroslav Narkevic, the Minister of Transport and Communications, suggests to take the first steps carefully and rather create a virtual airline. This would mean having own brand but leased aircraft and crews as well as all the necessary systems and technologies.
Although the launch would require a significant financial investment and contain certain risks, it is a highly important project for the country.
