An easyJet flight bound for Southend declared an emergency above France before diverting to land on the British island of Jersey.

The plane, an Airbus A320 registered G-UZHI, was carrying out flight U27416 from Alicante Airport (ALC), Spain, to London Southend Airport (SEN). The aircraft was delivered to easyJet in July 2018.

As it was flying above Normandy, France, the flight crew squawked 7700 (General Emergency) on its transponder before diverting towards the British island of Jersey, off the coast of France. The aircraft plateaued at 1,500 meters (5,000 feet), before landing successfully in Jersey Airport (JER).

A passenger on board was requiring “urgent medical assistance”, easyJet told AeroTime. “The aircraft was met by medical services on arrival in Jersey and the flight will now continue to Southend,” said an easyJet speaker, adding “the safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is always our highest priority.”
