Wilkommen in Edinburgh. To the surprise of its passengers, a British Airways flight bound to Düsseldorf, Germany ended up landing in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 25, 2019.

A British Airways BAe 146-200, registered D-AMGL, departed from London City Airport (LCY) to carry out flight BA3271 to Düsseldorf International Airport (DUS).

The flight was operated by Germany charter airline WDL Aviation, which was responsible for filing a wrong flight plan.

According to Sophie Cooke, a passenger quoted by BBC, upon landing in Edinburg, the pilot asked passengers to raise their hands if they wanted to go to Dusseldorf. The offer was, of course, overwhelmingly accepted.

Passengers had to wait two and a half hours in Scotland before the plane could take off again, this time towards its intended destination.

WDL Aviation opened an investigation to determine the reason for this confusion. According to flightradar24 data, the same aircraft flew to Edinburgh on March 24, 2019.

“We have apologised to customers for this interruption to their journey and will be contacting them all individually,” said British Airways in a statement.
