12 people aboard a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan aircraft died on October 29, 2023 after the plane crashed in Brazil’s Amazon region.

The aircraft, reportedly operated by local firm ART Taxi Aereo, took off from Rio Branco–Plácido de Castro International Airport (RBR) and was headed to Envira, a municipality in the Brazilian Amazon.

According to a report from local media Fato Amazonico, the aircraft lost height soon after take-off from runway 24 at Rio Branco Airport and crashed in dense Amazonian jungle.

The AFP news agency reported that the plane erupted into flames on impact and caused a forest fire in a remote area near Brazil’s border with Peru and Bolivia.

Video footage claiming to show the aircraft engulfed in flames was uploaded to social media.

The 12 passengers who perished were nine adult passengers, one infant, a pilot and a co-pilot.

Fato Amazona has released all names of the deceased

Brazilian authorities are investigating the incident, which occurred less than two months after another small plane crashed in the Amazonas state in September 2023, killing all 14 people on board.
