A pilot instructor and his student sustained minor injuries after a crash in northern Michigan on July 14, 2024, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reports.

The accident happened a little after 15:00 local time in Rose Lake Township, Osceola County, Michigan, about 19 kilometers (12 miles) northeast of Reed City.

On July 15, 2024, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office reported the accident on Facebook, claiming that single-engine Cessna 180J Skywagon was piloted by a 57-year-old male pilot instructor who was giving a flying lesson to his 19-year-old female aviation student.

The plane attempted to land on a grassy field, but accidentally missed the landing spot. When the pilot tried to take off again, the plane lost power and crashed into the swamp.

Both the pilot and student suffered minor injuries due to landing on the soft ground but walked away from the crash point.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are currently investigating the incident.

A similar incident occurred on June 14, 2024, when a single-engine Piper PA-28 crashed in a wooded area in Chatham County, near the Siler City Municipal Airport (SCR), killing a flight instructor and a student.
