A United Airlines flight that would have given passengers the chance to celebrate New Year’s Eve twice failed to deliver double the fun because of a six-hour flight delay.
UA 200, departing Guam International Airport (GUM) on January 1, 2024 at 07:35 local time, had a scheduled arrival in Honolulu International Airport (HNL) at 18:50 local time on December 31, 2023, thereby gaining another day.
Every year, those wishing to travel ‘back in time’ have taken UA 200 to celebrate New Year’s Eve twice. People who book this flight typically celebrate New Year’s Eve in Guam on December 31, then take the early morning flight to Honolulu, where they will have another chance to repeat the New Year’s countdown.
However, 2023’s UA 200 did not depart Guam until about 13:50 local time, which meant the flight arrived in Honolulu at 00:34 am on January 1, 2023 – much too late to ring in the New Year again.
Passengers on the flight took to social media to air their frustrations, knowing that they would have to wait another 12 months for another opportunity to welcome a new year twice.
