A 50-seater Embraer ERJ145 flown by United Nigeria Airlines skidded off the runway in Lagos, Nigeria.
Details surrounding the incident were confirmed by the airline on May 31, 2023, which also stated that none of the 50 passengers suffered any injuries.
The Embraer jet was flying from Abakaliki, Ebonyi state to Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS) when the incident happened.
According to United Nigeria the aircraft landed safely but was forced to “terminate its movement to the apron off the runway”.
Unconfirmed photos from the airport in Lagos show a white Embraer jet on a grassy area of the airport with several fire trucks surrounding the aircraft.
All passengers disembarked safely and were transported to the arrival halls along with their luggage, the airline said.
Officials from the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) were at the scene alongside United Nigeria Airlines engineers who were facilitating moving the aircraft to a hangar.
Investigators from the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) were also looking into the incident.
“United Nigeria wants to reassure the public that maintains strictest safety standards in its operations and shall continue to prioritize passenger safety at all times,” head of corporate communications, Achilleus-Chud Uchegbu, said.
