Yeti Airlines ATR 72 crash in Nepal kills at least 40 people

A Yeti Airlines ATR 72 aircraft crashed in Pokhara, Nepal.

The ATR 72-500, registered 9N-ANC, was conducting flight YT691 from Kathmandu-Tribhuvan Airport (KTM) to Pokhara International Airport.

While on final approach to runway 12, the aircraft crashed for an unknown reason. It impacted the bank of the Seti River between the new international airport and the old domestic one (PKR).

Footage taken seconds before the crash shows the regional airplane suddenly banking left.

68 passengers and four crew members were on board. At least 40 people were killed, according to Jagannath Niroula, spokesman for Nepal civil aviation authority.

“Rescue operations are on,” Niroula told Reuters. “Weather was clear.”

Yeti Airlines operates five ATR 72 aircraft, according to planespotters.net data.

In a statement, the manufacturer ATR said it was “fully engaged to support both the investigation and the customer.”
