Almost two years after it ceased all A380 flights to Australia due to the pandemic, Emirates resumed its daily A380 Dubai-Melbourne service on February 1, 2022.

The reintroduction of the popular A380 aircraft provides a near 50% boost to capacity on Emirates’ flights between Melbourne and its Dubai hub. This allows more travelers greater flexibility as Australia’s international borders reopen and travel demand returns.

As Emirates is the official airline and partner of the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai, the A380 aircraft touched down in Melbourne with a special Expo livery.

“We at Emirates are thrilled to see the A380’s return to Melbourne. Now that the Victorian capital has once again become the latest destination in our A380 network, Australians will have more opportunities for leisure and business travel,” Barry Brown, Emirates Divisional Vice President for Australasia said in a statement.

“This year marks 25 years of our service to Australia, with Melbourne being where it started for us, as our first Australian destination in 1996. Our commitment to this country remains as strong as it was back then. Adding more seats to our Melbourne service is yet another way of demonstrating our commitment, as we continue to ramp up our services to Australia.”

Australia is the third-largest destination for Emirates’ A380 operations. Melbourne joins Sydney in offering Emirates’ A380 services, which resumed on December 1, 2021.

The A380 will replace the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which operated four times weekly to Melbourne.
