On August 23, 2020, Luxembourgish cargo carrier Cargolux Airlines revealed an updated livery of their Boeing 747-8F with a medical mask on the aircraft’s nose.

The company says it was designed to reflect the company’s commitment to fight against the COVID-19. Although the airline does not fly passengers and thus does not participate in various controversies surrounding sanitary requirements, it has shipped COVID-19-related medical equipment on numerous occasions.

Cargolux is not the first company to “mask” its aircraft. Back in June, Russian low-cost airline Pobeda updated one of their Boeing 737-800s with a painting of a surgical mask. According to the airline, it was initiated by its employees and company’s staff covered the cost of the decoration.

And in early May, at the very beginning of the resumption of flights – and demands to wear masks while flying – United Airlines have put a real massive mask on their Boeing 787 Dreamliner, trying to highlight their commitment amidst the inception of mask-related controversies.
