Rolls Royce and Shell signed a memorandum of understanding to progress the adoption of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

According to the memorandum, the companies will collaborate in several areas, including Rolls Royce’s SAFinity service, which aims to increase the use of sustainable fuels to 100%. As per the agreement, Shell would become the exclusive supplier of fuel to the service.

“The heritage of collaboration between Rolls-Royce and Shell is a strong foundation for the future, particularly when it comes to our shared ambitions for achieving net zero emissions,” Anna Mascolo, the President of Shell Aviation, is quoted in a company’s press release.

According to the release, both companies strive for the decarbonization of the sector and believe that collaboration will unlock the potential of new green technologies.

Both Rolls Royce and Shell say they are aiming to reach the goal of net zero emissions by 2050.
