Canada reopens for international travel from September 7, 2021

Beginning September 7, 2021, Canada is opening its borders to international travelers who qualify as fully vaccinated against COVID-19 for non-essential travel. 

The Canada Border Services Agency confirmed on their site that beginning 12:01 EDT on September 7, 2021, foreign nationals who have been fully vaccinated are allowed to enter Canada for non-essential travel, provided they meet the following criteria:

  • They must be fully vaccinated. The traveler must show proof of complete vaccination, or a combination of vaccines that are recognized and accepted by the Government of Canada. The traveller must have completed their vaccination at least 14 days prior to their arrival in Canada. 

  • The vaccines currently accepted by the Government of Canada are those manufactured by: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, AstraZeneca/ COVISHIELD, and Johnson & Johnson.

  • Travelers must have a valid pre-arrival COVID-19 molecular test result taken no more than 72 hours before their scheduled flight. Antigen tests or “rapid tests” are not accepted.

  • Travelers must be asymptomatic.

  • Travelers must submit their mandatory information via the ArriveCAN app or website.

  • Travelers must be admissible under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

  • If selected, they must take a COVID-19 test on arrival.
