Vietnam’s low-cost carrier Vietjet Air agreed to 119 A321neo aircraft delivery timeline by signing a strategic agreement with Airbus on November 5, 2021.

According to Airbus orders and deliveries data, Vietjet Air had a total of 138 Airbus A321neo aircraft on order. To date, only 19 A321neo aircraft have joined the airline’s fleet. The remaining 119 Airbus A321neos have yet to be delivered to Vietjet Air.

However, while Vietjet Air and Airbus firmed up the delivery timeline, it did not disclose the exact date when the new A321neo aircraft will join the airline’s fleet.

In the airline’s statement, Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, said: “It’s another example of how we have worked together with our customers to find solutions to adapt to the impact of the pandemic.”

Scherer continued: “With its modern and efficient Airbus fleet Vietjet will be well equipped to benefit from the rebound in air travel in Asia, where we see strong pent-up demand.”

As part of the deal, both parties have also agreed to enhance aircraft equipment supply and services, aviation training, consultation, and development of MRO facilities for Vietjet.

In addition, at the signing of a strategic agreement with Airbus, Vietjet Air announced the decision to lease up to three Airbus A330 aircraft, “as part of the airline’s wide-body fleet development plan under its LCC model operation”.

The first Airbus A330 aircraft is expected to join the airline’s fleet in November 2021.

Currently, the carrier has a total of 91 aircraft in its fleet, Planespotters.net data shows. Vietjet operates 44 Airbus A321-200s, 28 Airbus A320-200s, and 19 Airbus A321neo aircraft.
