The curious case of crates of Cognac. Drinks maker Bacardi USA is suing American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) over hundreds of missing bottles of Cognac.
According to court documents filed on April 19, 2022 and reported by US media, 420 cases went missing after a flight between Paris and Los Angeles on September 20, 2021.
Bacardi states in the court documents that 24 pallets with 1,680 cases of Cognac were loaded into the aircraft, but some were unaccounted for at the other end.
“While in the possession, custody and control of [American Airlines (A1G) (AAL)], six pallets and three cases were lost or stolen,” states the lawsuit, according to media reports.
The drinks company therefore wants American Airlines (A1G) (AAL) to pay $65,820 to cover the value of the liquor.
It’s not clear whether the French brandy was lost or stolen, but Bacardi states it is American that needs to pay the bill.
