Delta Air Lines announced that it will ‘strategically decrease’ its flight schedule for summer 2022.

In its announcement on May 26, 2022, Delta said that the flight cuts will “build additional resilience in our system and improve operational reliability for our customers and employees.”

Weather and air traffic control, vendor staffing and increased COVID cases are some of the factors that the airline cited as reasons for the scheduled flight reduction.

While the airline has not given a list of specific flights that it plans to cut, it said that from July 1 to August 7, 2022, services will be reduced by approximately 100 daily departures, “primarily in markets in the US and Latin America that Delta frequently serves.”

“More than any time in our history, the various factors currently impacting our operation – weather and air traffic control, vendor staffing, increased COVID case rates contributing to higher-than-planned unscheduled absences in some work groups,” Delta chief customer experience officer Allison Ausband said in the airline’s statement.

“We deeply appreciate the energy and efforts of our people and the confidence of our customers as we adapt and pivot to ensure we provide the airline-of-choice experience we’re so proud to be known for.”

Delta said that it will strive to notify affected customers of itinerary changes as far in advance as possible.
