Rowdy, a beloved pet cat that has spent three weeks evading capture at Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), has finally been caught, Boston media has reported.
“True to her name, this frisky feline escaped her kitty kennel upon her Lufthansa (LHAB) (LHA) flight’s arrival on June 24 and had been roaming the airport ever since. Whether out of fatigue or hunger we’ll never know, but this morning she finally let herself be caught,” said Massport, the agency that operates the airport, in a statement, as reported by NBC Boston.
The black, green-eyed cat ran away after her owners arrived on a flight from Germany. According to media reports, Rowdy escaped from her cage “in pursuit of some birds”.
A massive search effort began, involving airport staff, construction workers and animal experts. Traps, treats and cameras were placed across the facility, but the cat managed to elude her would-be captors for three weeks.
Finally, on July 13, statements that Rowdy had been caught were posted across BOS social media accounts.
“I’m kind of in disbelief. I thought, what are the odds we’re actually going to get her back?” Rowdy’s owner, Patty Sahli told Sky News.
“It was such a community effort. We’re just so grateful to everyone who helped look for her,” she continued.
The cat was caught by members of the Animal Rescue League of Boston and transferred to the owners. According to the League’s spokesperson, Rowdy was scared and hungry, but healthy.
“[She] probably put a dent on the mouse population at the airport,” Sahli added.
