India’s newest airline Akasa Air has provided more details of its network expansion once it commences flights.
Starting August 19, 2022, the low-cost airline will offer 28 weekly direct flights on a new sector between Bengaluru (BLR) and Mumbai (BOM).
The airline will start flights on August 7, 2022 with flights between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, and then flights between Bengaluru and Kochi from August 13, 2022.
The new route means Akasa will be providing 82 weekly flights within the first few weeks of its operations, it said in a statement on July 26, 2022. The new airline intends to expand its network “progressively”, connecting tier 2 and 3 cities across India.
Akasa has ordered 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for its operations. It will launch with two aircraft, and take an additional two aircraft each month, meaning by the end of 2023, its fleet will comprise 18 aircraft. It then plans to add another 12 to 14 planes every 12 months, to take it to 72 MAX aircraft over a five-year period.
