Canadian civil aviation regulator Transport Canada has granted approval for Canada Jetlines (JETMF) to launch commercial passenger flights from its hub at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).
The new ultra-low-cost carrier received its air operator certificate (AOC) on August 18, 2022, proving that the airline meets all safety regulations for aircraft operations. Now the newcomer can proceed with its launch plans.
“The entire team at Canada Jetlines (JETMF) is thrilled to obtain our AOC after meeting all necessary operation standards and passing all inspections,” said Eddy Doyle, CEO of Canada Jetlines (JETMF). “We excitedly look forward to our launch date, meeting the increased demand for convenient, leisure travel in Canada and beyond and providing more options to explore the world.”
Founded in 2013, Canada Jetlines (JETMF) currently has one A320-200, which was delivered on December 27, 2021 from commercial aircraft lessor Jackson Square Aviation. But the airline expects to gradually expand its fleet further and operate a total of 15 planes by 2025.
Confident about Canadian passenger demand for low-fare air travel, the startup airline will follow the business model of Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair.
“The air carrier was created to provide Canadians with value vacation choices and convenient travel options to fly to fantastic leisure destinations within Canada, the U.S.A., Cuba, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Antigua, Bahamas, and other Caribbean nations,” Canada Jetlines (JETMF) said in a statement. “Canada Jetlines (JETMF) will provide exciting vacation packages to iconic Canadian destinations and beyond via strong partnerships with airports, tourism entities, hotels, hospitality brands, and attractions.”
The airline’s official launch is scheduled to take place on August 29, 2022.
