Southwest Airlines flight struck by gunfire at Dallas Love Field

A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 preparing for takeoff from Dallas Love Field (DAL) was hit by a bullet on November 15, 2024. The aircraft was about to operate Flight 2494 to Indianapolis (IND).

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the event in a statement, saying:

“While taxiing for takeoff at Dallas Love Field Airport, Southwest Airlines Flight 2494 was reportedly struck by gunfire near the cockpit around 8:30 p.m. local time on Friday, Nov. 15. The Boeing 737-800 returned to the gate, where passengers deplaned. The flight was headed to Indianapolis International Airport.”

No injuries were reported among the passengers or crew on board.

Dallas Love Field reported that Runway 13R/31L was temporarily closed following the incident, which had a minimal impact on airport operations.

The Dallas Police Department is leading the investigation, with authorities working to determine the source of the gunfire.
