Cathay Pacific has announced it will be expanding its route network to destinations in North America with a new direct route from its main hub at Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW) in Texas, USA. The new route marks the first time that the city pair has been connected by Hong Kong’s homegrown carrier.
The new service, scheduled to commence on April 24, 2025, marks Cathay Pacific’s sixth passenger destination in the United States and eighth in North America. The move to begin flights to Dallas-Fort Worth “further reinforces the airline’s presence on the continent while bolstering the global connectivity of its home hub, Hong Kong,” states the carrier.
The new 8,123-mile (12,996km) flights will operate four times weekly initially, operating from Hong Kong on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. The flight (flight number CX898) will depart Hong Kong at 16:05 local time, arriving at 17:55 the same day in Dallas. The return flight (CX897) will depart Dallas on the same days of the week at 23:55 arriving in Hong Kong two days later at 05:05.
All flights will be operated by the carrier’s 18-strong fleet of Airbus A350-1000 long-range widebodies and remain subject to regulatory approval. These aircraft seat 334 passengers in a three-class layout comprising 46 in business class, 32 in premium economy, and 256 in economy.
“With our unique position of having deep roots in Hong Kong, being proudly part of China, and connecting the world,” said Cathay Group Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau. “Cathay continues to build Hong Kong as a leading international aviation hub that connects people to the most exciting places in the world.”
“Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is one of the world’s busiest airports. With our Cathay Pacific codeshares as well as other flight options, customers can connect to over 190 domestic destinations in the United States, as well as 11 destinations in Central and South America via DFW, further enhancing Hong Kong’s connectivity with North America and important Belt and Road Initiative participating countries,” Lau added.
Cathay Pacific currently operates 88 return passenger flights per week to eight destinations in North America, including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Toronto, and Vancouver. In fact, Cathay Pacific first began serving the North American market with its first non-stop service to Vancouver in 1983.
Elsewhere across the US, Cathay Pacific has also revealed it is also increasing frequencies on other services throughout 2025. By May 2025, the airline will be operating 108 return flights per week. Aside from the new Dallas service, this will include three return flights per day to New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles respectively, and a daily return flight to both Boston and Chicago. Cathay Pacific will also increase flights on its services to Canada, with two daily return flights to Vancouver and 13 return flights per week to Toronto.
Additionally, Cathay Pacific’s new passenger service to Dallas-Fort Worth will also complement its Cathay Cargo division’s existing freighter services to the city operated via Anchorage in Alaska.
To cater to the growing demand during the air cargo peak season, Cathay Cargo is operating five additional return freighter flights per week to North America starting in September 2024. In total, Cathay Cargo is currently operating up to 37 return freighter flights per week to North America.
